2025 MAZDA CX-90 vs. Kia Telluride: Which Is Better for Families?


If you’re the head of a large or growing family, only a three-row SUV like the 2025 Mazda CX-90 will do. Powertrains

Both the Mazda CX-90 and Kia Telluride are available with one engine, but the Mazda SUV’s powerplant is offered in two states of tune. In low-output form, its turbocharged 3.3-liter inline-six engine pairs with a mild hybrid system to produce 280 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque. High output versions of the engine pair with the same mild hybrid system to generate 340 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque with premium fuel.

A 3.8-liter V6 engine powers the Kia Telluride and delivers 291 horsepower and just 262 lb-ft of torque. Like the Mazda CX-90, the Kia Telluride relies on an eight-speed automatic transmission for gear shifts. Whereas i-ACTIV AWD® is standard for the Mazda CX-90, all-wheel drive only comes standard on the Kia Telluride with its top trim.

Standard Equipment

New Mazda SUVs are well known for their near-luxury appointments and comfortable cabins. Beginning with its base model, the Mazda CX-90 has a power-adjustable driver’s seat, something that’s not standard for its rival until you reach the second trim in its lineup. A leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob also come standard for the Mazda CX-90.

You’ll have to bypass the base Kia Telluride LX in favor of a higher trim if you want roof rails like the ones that are standard for the Mazda SUV. While rain-sensing wipers are standard for the well-appointed Mazda CX-90, they don’t appear on the Kia SUV’s features list until you reach its top-of-the-line trim. The Mazda CX-90 has a standard eight-speaker stereo while the Kia SUV’s standard sound system is two speakers shy of that mark.
